Where did you build your house?

Without God, we would be nothing.

First of all, think about it. God created the universe, the world, our very being. He is the Maker of all things, great and small. He is the Reason that we are even on this earth. So, without Him, we are literally nothing.

Genesis 1:1-2

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Now, apply that spiritually. If we don’t put our trust in God, we have no hope. He gives us everything we need if we follow Him and do His Will. Without God, our souls are without form, void. That’s what I think this Psalm is talking about. Unless we put our trust solely in God, and make an active decision to follow Him, the labor in whatever foundation we have chosen to lean on is pointless. The only way is to make a firm decision to serve the Lord, just like Joshua did in Joshua 24:15. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” God was with Joshua because he was unwavering in his decision to serve Him.

It’s like the children’s song:

The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand went splat!
So build your house on the Lord, Jesus Christ
And the blessings will come down.
The blessings come down and the prayers go up
So build your house on the Lord!

Psalm 118:8

It is better to put trust in the LORD

Than to put confidence in man.

God works in ways far more complex than anything man could ever imagine; His ways are not our ways. Since His ways are far beyond our comprehension, that means our faith has to be strong — completely solid. And if we have firm, solid faith, God will give us what we need, when we need it, because He knows what’s best in every situation.

Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways,

And my thoughts than your thoughts.”

He has had a plan for us from the very beginning — sending His Son to die for our sins. Through that sacrifice, we have the privilege of putting our trust and hope in God, so that we may one day rest with Him. Whatever happens to us, if we have a grounded foundation in God and His Word, we can go through life with the hope of heaven. We just have to remember to work for God, and not man (Col. 3:23).

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and go and pray to me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.

 Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Let’s make our earthly journey worth it, by trusting in God and doing His Will daily, because unless God is our Rock, everything we work for is vanity.
